Legal Services

Wafa House believes in a holistic, restorative approach to justice for our clients. They are often reluctant to seek legal assistance due to language barriers; fear of law enforcement due to negative experiences in their country or the US; lack of familiarity with the US legal system; varying cultural norms related to gender roles, the rights of women and children, and shame associated with specific types of victimization; and previous trauma.

Our in-house legal team is comprised of a family law attorney,  and an Arabic-speaking legal assistant. Our legal assistant provides general guidance and legal referrals to partners outside of Wafa House who may be better suited to their case. For our qualifying clients, our attorney and legal assistant will assist with court proceedings related to:

  • divorce

  • child custody

  • domestic violence

  • sexual violence

  • orders of protection
